Apolo Ohno

Olympian, Author, Speaker
Speaker Bio

Apolo Ohno claimed his first major speed skating title at the US Championships at the age of 14 after just six months of training. Over the next decade and a half, he transformed from a young prodigy to the most decorated US Winter Olympian in history—a title he still holds—earning eight Olympic medals in short-track speed skating across the 2002, 2006, and 2010 Winter Games.

After the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Ohno leveraged his first-hand understanding of sport psychology and his own encounters with triumphs and setbacks to cultivate a resilient and mission-driven approach to life. He transformed himself into a bestselling author, recognized by the New York Times, and traveled the world to apply his athletic achievements to business. As a captivating speaker, Ohno has empowered countless business leaders to embrace a high-performance mindset and thrive amidst the prevailing uncertainty of the modern world. He is passionate about helping others not only achieve but exceed what they believe to be possible in both life and in business.

Ohno’s most recent work centers on the concept of reinvention—an undertaking in which he has demonstrated mastery. Ohno came up with a framework of Five Golden Principles. When he has taught these principles to others, he has seen how well they work. That’s why Ohno used these principles as the foundation for his new book: “Hard Pivot: Embrace Change. Find Purpose. Show Up Fully.”

Ohno remains deeply involved in the Olympic movement, serving as an NBC sports analyst for multiple Games and holding roles as a global ambassador for the Special Olympics and Winter Olympic Games. Currently, he serves on the bid committee for the Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the athlete advisory committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. Additionally, Ohno continues to excel competitively, winning season four of ABC's “Dancing with the Stars” and completing the challenging 2014 Ironman World Championship Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii, in under 10 hours.
