Founder, Obesity Coaching Academy

Dr. Ritva Mettanen is an obesity medicine physician, preventive healthcare advocate, and founder of Obesity Coaching Academy (OCA). Drawing on more than three decades of personal experience with obesity and over 10 years of clinical practice in obesity medicine, she has developed a unique approach that bridges healthcare and fitness to drive lasting behavior change and metabolic health. Through OCA and the Obesity Coaching Standard, Mettänen equips fitness professionals with the skills to better understand and support clients living with obesity—addressing not only physiology but also the psychological and behavioral factors that influence long-term success. Her work is rooted in the belief that obesity care is one of the most impactful forms of preventive healthcare and that the fitness industry is uniquely positioned to play a leading role in improving health outcomes at scale.
