Help Prepare America’s Future Service Members

The Health & Fitness Association (HFA) is launching Service Ready—a national initiative connecting future military recruits with participating health clubs and gyms to help improve physical readiness before Basic Training.

Participating facilities provide short-term, no-cost access and optional fitness support for verified recruits preparing to ship to training.

Why It Matters

America is facing a growing military readiness challenge:

  • Only 41% of young adults meet military fitness and weight standards
  • 77% are currently ineligible for enlistment
  • Obesity disqualifies more than 52,000 applicants annually
  • Preventable injuries cost the military billions each year

The fitness industry has the infrastructure and expertise to help.

Service Ready LP 3-1

How It Works

Participating facilities may provide:

  • 8–12 weeks of no-cost access for verified recruits
  • Optional coaching from certified fitness professionals
  • Optional body composition assessments

The initiative is designed to complement existing military preparatory programs and improve readiness before Basic Training.
